ABBRA partners with Marine Liens

Boating Industry
Tuesday March 23, 2004

WARREN, R.I. – The board of directors of the American Boat Builders and Repairers Association (ABBRA) endorsed a new partnership today with Marine Liens Ltd., owner of the global maritime-lien database. As a result, ABBRA members will now receive a special discount when they use the Marine Liens services, the association said today.

Those services allow boatyards and repairers who supply goods and services to check for past liens before starting work, and post new claims of liens on boats that have not paid their bill, ABBRA said in its release.

"ABBRA is continually looking for products and services that will be of benefit to its members and we think the instant lien search is a great tool," ABBRA president Bill Munger said. “This provides another tangible benefit to the ABBRA membership.”

The agreement allows ABBRA members free use of www.marineliens.com to post claims of liens and a discounted fee for searching the database for vessels with liens against them. To introduce the new program, ABBRA members now have free access to the database until the end of April and after that, each new ABBRA member will be given one free search, the association said.

“I placed a lien for some work that I completed but didn’t get paid for and within ten days had found the boat and received payment,” ABBRA board member Steve Bunnell said. “This is an excellent, low-cost service that produces results.”

AMTECH endorses marine liens service

By IBI Magazine

Marine Liens, owner of the global maritime-lien database, has been endorsed by the Board of Directors from the Association of Marine Technicians (AMTECH).

AMTECH members will receive a special discount when they use the www.MarineLiens.com services, which allow marine contractors who supply goods and services to check for past liens before starting work and post new claims of liens on boats that have not paid their bill.

"AMTECH is continually looking for products and services that will be of benefit to its members and we think the instant lien search is a great tool," said Joe De Marco, president of AMTECH.

David Hayward, president of Marine Liens, exhibited his services to AMTECH members at the organisation's recent National Marine Service Expo in Orlando. He was also a guest speaker at the annual Technicians meeting during the Expo and explained the benefits in detail to the attendees.

"The nice part about this service is that you do not need an attorney or a judge to validate a lien because liens are created automatically the moment the work is complete," Hayward said. "Liens are attached to the boat and not to the owner, and it remains attached to the boat until the lien is settled." (6 February 2004)
